If you do think this will not affect the economy of Hawaii read the Headlines. Hotel room occupancy is way down and the future of the visitor industry is bleak! Destroying the wedding industry is certainly going to make things a lot worse! How many businesses do you think weddings use when they come to Maui? How many vendors and venues do you think the wedding industry supports? No weddings or photography are allowed at all on Kaanapali Beach. Good luck to those Hotels! It is very obvious that the Hotels (large Corporations) are the only ones that will benifit from stopping the TVR's, The Ocean Activities and the Wedding Industry. Since the wedding industry has been having to get permits for about eight months now and the Kaanapali Beach area is off limits to weddings and photographers, I personally know of many weddings that have take place there and I have photographs of a company in Whaler's Village that does nothing but take photos on Kaanapali Beach. I was told that if my company did photos on Kaanapali Beach I would be fined a minimum of $5000. Brides have called me and told me that they wanted to get married on Kaanapali Beach and were told by their Hotel that the only way they could is if they went through the Hotel. I personally know several ministers that the Hotels refer people to that will go out and do these weddings for the Hotels. Recently one of my Brides cancelled the photographer I hire for her wedding because he would not go on Kaanapali Beach and do photos. She then hired someone who did. Is this free enterprise? What this is, is a conspiracy. Conspiracies are illegal. They are against the law. Why are the small businesses on this island not taking action. If they stay in disbelief much longer we will all be out of business and the Hotels will have control of everything they want control of. That being said I would like to explain a couple of problems that this will present. There are a lot of people that cannot afford a Hotel. There are a lot of people that cannot afford a Hotel wedding. What happens to all that business that would have come to Maui and helped the economy? They go somewhere else! Eventually the Hotels will see that what they have accomplished is a disaster! I would like to see them all have to file Bankruptcy. They have it coming. Better yet I would like the Government to step in and stop this conspiracy, not be a part of it. It is all the small busnisses on the island of Maui and in the rest of Hawaii as well that actually advertise what brings the visitors here. They do not come here just to stay in a Hotel. They stay in the Hotels so they will be close to the ocean and the activities and weddings they come here for. Feeling very frustrated today, am I the only one that understands this?
