The mind set of the State and Counties in Hawaii seems to be that small businesses are not necessary for the survival of the economy. It is bad enough that we pay more for food, water and gas then anywhere in the Country but now with the loss of many jobs and loss of income that was provided by small businesses many people and families are being forced to leave Hawaii. Forced to give up their homes that they can no longer afford and move to the Mainland for work. The visitor industry is being completely abused by all of the so called new laws and regulations that the Counties and State are imposing on all of the activities and vacation rentals. The question that you have to keep asking yourself is why do our leaders not want the visitor industry in Hawaii. The lastest permit problem is with Kaanapali Beach and the activity companies. The Department of Land and Natural Resources is planning to issue a limited number of permits to whoever can pay the most money for them. This is an outrage. They call it an auction. It is nothing more than a legal form of Bribery! It also means that quality and standards for the services that these activity companies provide will not longer matter. Only who has the most money. Again who will suffer? The Visitor will suffer and so will the companies that cannot afford the bribes! It will not matter if they provide a better service or activity if they cannot pay the bribe. I mean pay for the permit! The saddest affect that all of this is having on this beautiful State is that many of the people leaving are the people that really make this Hawaii. If things keep going the way they are most Hawaiians will have moved away to survive and to get a good education for their children. The Hawaiian culture is an important culture to preserve not eliminate. With the Hawaiians will go the Aloha! This is very sad! An entire culture could be wiped out if over the years the Hawaiians who move away marry other races. There are few true Hawaiians left as it is! How do we turn things around? How can we turn back the clock and undo the mistakes and crimes that have been committed by our politicians over the years? It cannot be to late to save this beautiful place. It just cannot be too late! |
