The privatisation of the Public Beaches!

Is the public even aware that the entire Kaanapali Beach area from the Hyatt to the Embassy Suites is now under the jurisdiction of DOBAR. That is the Department of Boating and Recreation which is a division of the DLNR.

No Weddings or Photographers are to be allowed on the beach at any time ever. Certain Activity providers that pay for the permit (yearly), will be allowed. Wow! That is selective enforcement! Visitors will not even be able to have their families photographed on the beaches of Kaanapali. Now is this hard to believe?

What possible harm could a Photographer do to a beach? The visitors are going to be thrilled to hear that they cannot have their photo taken on Kaanapali Beach. The Hotels which do wedding on their property will not even be allowed to send their couples out to the beach with the photographer. Even if the Photographer has a State permit which most do. It is void on Kaanapali Beach.

Lets also mention here that the Hotels already tell their employees to park in the beach access parking to prevent the use of the public.

Look up the definition of public!

The DLNR is talking about a limited number of yearly permits being offered to certain activities such as surf schools, umbrellas and chairs, boats, etc..., and they will be asked to bid on them. This is nothing more than bribery. Permits will be given to the highest bid???

Trust me when I tell you that Wailea Beach will be next! How can this be legal?

If anyone has been to Kapalua Bay recently you probably noticed that the parking lot has been full when the beach was empty. That is because of construction workers at the new timeshare on Kapalua Bay and also from Mirraman's Restaurant. Why are they not being ticketed?

The Constitution of Hawaii states that all Beaches in Hawaii are for the public's use!

The people of Maui should be outraged by this. We need to demand that our government be for the people not against.
