Dogs on the Beach

There is a law in Maui that says no dogs are allowed on the beach. Now I love animals and I have pets but it does outrage me when I am strolling the beach at sunset and all the dog owners that kept their dogs in all day while at work or whatever, are walking, and running their dogs up and down the beach and the whole time the dogs are defecating on the shoreline. Some of these dogs are quite large. Now I don't know about you, but I do not want to swim or have my children swim in water that is full of dog doo. Yes, I have approached these dog owner and asked them "are you just going to leave that there?" Do I have to tell you how they respond? One actually said "why not the water will wash it away." With a person this bright the dog should be walking him!

I personally went to the Department of Land and had a discussion with them about this problem. There is a law but in order to enforce it signs have to be posted. Then you have to have someone patrol the beaches. Well, I have seen the County do less important things. I have counted as many as 50 dogs on Wailea Beach at sunset. I think signs are warranted. I know that most people do not even know that it is illegal to take your dog on the beach.

I know that you dog owners that are reading this may think this is directed towards you. If you walk your dog on the beach then it is directed towards you. Would you want to swim in it? If you care about Maui and I know you do then find another place to walk your dog and clean up after your dog no matter where he decides to leave a pile. It is the decent thing to do!
