| I have seen many things since I came to Maui in 1988 but when I think of what might have happened to this young man's future I just want to scream. Their is no excuse for parents that teach their children prejudice that they were taught and they know is wrong. It has to stop somewhere. We call ourselves humans but any human that could inflict this kind of pain on another is less than human. Something is missing. The sad thing is that they will go unpunished as so many do when things like this happen. I have reported many crimes that were happening only to watch the police come and tell them to just go home. "Break it up" they say and sometimes I know that they know the kids that they are letting off. You give them an inch and they take a mile. |

This is how he looked 2 days after his beating. I was deeply saddened and ashamed of our Maui Teens when I saw what had happened to him. The inside of his mouth is a cut up also. How can one human being do this to another. Just imagine how his family felt. And if this is what the person or persons that did this would do to an innocent visitor, what will they be like when fully grown. This young man was lucky not to suffer permanent damage or even die. Many are not so lucky! |
